Has service on the Oakland bus route been cut again? This morning, my 67 year old friend left his house at 830 a m to catch the Oakland bus to the DMC for a prescription. He waited til 10 and never saw a Southbound Oakland bus.  As you know, if you are a North End or Highland Park resident who uses DMC facilities-the Veterans Hospital, Detroit Receiving, Hutzell, Children’s or  Women’s Hospitals, the bus only runs from 6:30 am to 9:30 am, then from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. It runs once an hour, so if you do miss one, you might as well walk up to Woodward (only 4 long blocks away) where you can wait for a bus that is not too crowded to pick you up.

If you do take the Woodward to the DMC, you are left with a walk of nearly a mile to DMC Hospitals with entrances on Oakland.

There are Oakland Bus stops right at the door of most of these hospitals, but if your appointment is after 930am, you will not be able to get a bus back til well after 330pm. Shuttle bus routes do not include Woodward Avenue, and taking the  Mack or Cross-town still leaves you with a half-mile walk.
